Overview

We are looking for a talented and highly skilled Infrastructure Engineer with experience in cloud infrastructure and IaC to join our community of tech experts. We are using fresh ideas and leading-edge tech to build and maintain digital solutions used by the public. DWP is the UK's largest government department, helping people into work and making payments worth over £195bn a year.

Responsibilities
* Lead Criteria: Strong experience in AWS Compute Services such as EC2, Autoscaling, Lambda, Lifecycle Hooks, volumes and snapshots management, AMI creation using Image Builder or Packer.
* Significant experience in AWS CloudFormation/CDK, Terraform Infrastructure as Code with advanced template scripting, including knowledge of parameters, functions, references, mappings, resource groups, and user data/bootstrap script execution.
* Strong working knowledge of Git, branching strategies, merging, push/pull requests, and creating and managing CI/CD pipelines.
* Advanced knowledge of AWS VPCs (private networks, subnets, security groups, network ACLs, peering, PrivateLink, Endpoints) and networking with Internet/NAT/Transit Gateways/VPNs.
* Operating System experience: Amazon Linux/Red Hat/CentOS; Bash scripting; installing packages; capable of non-interactive tooling installation. Windows Server 2012R2/2016/2019 with PowerShell scripting, including reusable modules.
* Live Services: experience running production environments with change management processes, knowledge of SRE principles and DevOps practices, and incident/problem/change management.
* Collaborate with delivery teams and partners (e.g., AWS, UiPath, MongoDB); engage in proactive monitoring and robust, scalable solutions to keep critical services running smoothly.
Qualifications / Requirements
* Proven experience designing and operating cloud infrastructure using AWS and Infrastructure as Code (CDK, CloudFormation, Terraform).
* Proficiency with Git and CI/CD workflows.
* Extensive AWS networking knowledge (VPCs, subnets, security groups, NAT/Internet gateways, VPNs, PrivateLink).
* Strong Linux (Amazon Linux/Red Hat/CentOS) and Windows Server (PowerShell) skills; scripting and automation capabilities.
* Experience with live production environments, change management, and DevOps/SRE practices.
* Ability to work with cross-functional teams and communicate effectively.
Location, Pay & Benefits
* Location: Manchester or Newcastle (hybrid working).
* Hybrid working model: mix of home and hub-based work.
* Pay: up to £68,517.
* Pension: employer contributions of 28.97% (£16k+ per year).
* Holidays: 26 days rising to 31, with up to 3 extra flexi-days per month plus public holidays.
