OB Technician LDRPN Unit - Full Time 36 hrs./week - Nights - Rochester

Shift: Midnights 7:00 pm to 7:30 am, alternating weekend schedule
General Summary
* Under the supervision of the OB Department Manager, the OB Technician coordinates the provision and distribution of medical supplies to L&D; oversees maintenance of equipment for L&D, assists in preparations necessary to provide patient care in L&D, scrubs for cesarean sections.
* Assist in the preparation of the patient for and during examination of procedures.
* Take and record vital signs.
* Observe and report patient’s condition.
* Perform nursing care duties when requested to do so by a registered nurse, including: a) prepares, checks, and monitors the function of equipment. b) administer enemas to patients as prescribed. c) insertion and discontinuation of urethral catheters. d) discontinue intravenous infusions. e) application of oxygen per mask. f) responds to Code Blue page and other emergency situations within the unit. g) application of monitoring equipment. h) blood glucose monitoring. i) ECG (apply leads). j) venipuncture (lab draws/peripheral IV starts). k) Assist physician with obtaining specimens. l) initiation of requisitions, able to order lab work via the computer. m) deliver specimens to the laboratory. Records the following: a) recording of patient’s valuables. b) vital signs. c) source and name of specimens and time to lab. n) Perform a variety of technical functions including the following: a) Ordering and stocking of supplies and special equipment in delivery rooms. b) Checking as necessary sterility of supplies. c) Prepare used instruments, count, and return to case care. Prepare room for housekeeping to clean. d) Routine cleaning assignments. e) Assists with scheduling of patients. f) Assists with patient charges. g) Assists with orientation of personnel. h) Place purchase orders for re-order of L&D stock items, submit to Department Manager. i) Trouble-shoot problems with equipment before notifying biomedical technicians with full report of problem. Contacts contracted repair organizations. Verify completion of repairs. j) Maintain unit records of purchase orders and delivery, supplies location, and source file, equipment inventory. Preventive maintenance contracts, purchase contract, repair records, and a file of operator's manuals. k) Prepare and open set-ups for deliveries. l) Scrubs for Cesarean Sections. m) Assist in capacity of NA, on the MBU whenever L&D census is low or staffing allows.
* Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Education/Experience
Required:
* High School Diploma or G.E.D. equivalent required.
* Previous nursing assistant experience in last one year required.
Preferred:
* Previous experience in scrub procedures preferred.
