We are looking to appoint an experienced and motivated individual to join our Ophthalmology team. This post is aimed at providing ophthalmology services at the Royal Eye infirmary, Dorset County Hospital NHS Foundation Trust. The successful candidate is expected to deliver general Ophthalmological services including Saturday’s cold clinic with prospective cover (currently on 1 in 5 basis), participate in the duty on call rota and option for specialist clinics depending on applicant knowledge, skills and experience.
Main duties of the job
The post holder must be medically qualified and maintain GMC registration and hold a licence to practice.
To develop and maintain the competencies required to carry out the duties required of the post.
To ensure prompt attendance at agreed direct clinical care activities.
To ensure patients are involved in decisions about their care and to respond to their views.
To work with medical, nursing and managerial colleagues to ensure high performance.
Working for our organisation
The Trust has 2 Clinical Divisions: Urgent and Integrated Care Division, and Surgical and Family Division. Each Division is headed by a Divisional Director, a Divisional Manager and a Head of Nursing. Each Division is responsible for delivering high quality patient treatment and care within the resources allocated to it. All medical staff within the division are expected to take an active part in its affairs.
The successful candidate will be professionally accountable to the Divisional Director and managerially accountable to the Divisional Manager. Senior medical staff undergo annual appraisals, at which objectives are set and reviewed.
Detailed job description and main responsibilities
The post holder is expected to work with the Consultant sub-specialty leads to mitigate possible risks to the service and to support the service's administrative team in organising, planning, and maintaining a safe and well-led service.
This post will benefit from a well-supported, regular 8 PA job plan. This may include general ophthalmology, medical retinal, glaucoma, laser clinic and emergency work. The post holder will be a key member of the ophthalmology team and is expected to approach the role with a team-based view on relationships within the department and with other specialties in the organisation. The successful candidate will be encouraged to engage and contribute to clinical audit, governance and quality improvement and innovation in the Specialty and Trust. The successful candidate will also be encouraged to take up lead roles in various services involving the department.

Essential criteria
* Full registration with licence to practice with the GMC
Experience
Essential criteria
* Experience as a specialty trainee or specialty doctor in ophthalmology
* Shall have completed a minimum of 12 years’ medical work (since obtaining a primary medical qualification of which a minimum of six years should have been Ophthalmology in the Specialty Doctor and/or closed SAS grades
