PURPOSE OF THE ROLE:
• As part of our on-going growth strategy, we are looking for a Legal Director to join the Manchester Infrastructure, Projects & Energy team to help service their ever-growing roster of clients across social infrastructure, energy and utilities and transport.
• In this role, you will manage commercial contracts relating to energy infrastructure and transport and advise on the full spectrum of issues relating to energy and transport sector mandates, acting for a broad range of companies, developers, PE funds and Financial Institutions.
• As Legal Director, you will have an active role in shaping the future strategy of the team, nurturing talent and identifying new opportunities.
THE TEAM:
• As one of most established multi-disciplinary teams of any law firm, we give clients the confidence they need to succeed. The team advises funds, developers, asset managers, operators, financial institutions, energy and utility companies, central and local government and NHS Trusts on innovative, complex projects, which are frequently in the headlines.
• The team places a high emphasis on their transactional expertise and are able to bring a commercial and business-orientated approach to a wide range of work in markets as diverse as water, large scale outsourcing, renewable energy, transport, and healthcare, in the UK and all over the world. We frequently advise on novel and "first in class" projects.
• The team advises on complex social infrastructure schemes spanning multiple sectors including healthcare, education, housing and regeneration, and local government, nationally and internationally on projects such as the Department of Health and Social Care in relation to its Neighbourhood Health Centre Procurement Programme, Turks and Caicos Islands Government on its Hospital PPP, a new hospital in Indonesia, purchasing care homes, advising on commercialising IP for NHS Trusts, Salford City Council's £80m social housing regeneration project, a prominent North West University on its complex student accommodation redevelopment and a number of high profile private hospitals on the procurement of services arrangements with the NHS.
• In the energy and utilities space, the team's work includes several pathfinder projects such as advising: United Utilities on its Haweswater Aqueduct Resilience Programme DPC project, a major infrastructure project to provide water to Manchester and the Pennines; the National Wealth Fund on the Sizewell C new build nuclear power station and SGN on Gas to the West, a pipeline bringing gas from Northern Ireland to the Irish Republic.
• The transport team is recognised as one of the most experienced in the sector with technical expertise across a range of national and international projects. We specifically focus on rail, urban transit, ports, freight and logistics and transport hubs. We are on the legal panels for the Department for Transport, Network Rail, Transport for London and Transport for Greater Manchester.
• The team is known for its quality work and breadth of expertise and has top rankings in Legal 500 and Chambers for Water, Transport, Local Government and Health.
WHAT TO EXPECT IN THE ROLE:
• You will have the opportunity to advise private and public sector clients across all of our key sectors, as well as continuing to build on the expertise you will have developed to date in sectors you have a particular interest in.
• You will have responsibility for drafting and negotiating commercial documents, managing transaction processes, and supervising the contribution of less experienced colleagues.
• Strongly encouraged to take responsibility for business development both by engaging directly with client contacts at networking events and by providing training.
• Taking an active role in leading and developing junior talent within the team.

KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:
• Have at least 8 years' PQE + experience within Infrastructure, Projects, Energy and/or Transport sectors.
• The ability to actively support complex transactions, liaising and coordinating with fee earners from other relevant disciplines across the firm as needed.
• The drive to contribute to the general upkeep of the group (whether that be to training, precedents, or know-how generally).
• Preferably have strong experience in advising energy side clients on a national level.
• You enjoy being client-facing and have enthusiasm for intellectually challenging work, are ambitious and confident to deliver at the highest standard.
