Head of Operations/ COO
Harrington Starr are pleased to be working with a high-performance proprietary trading firm operating across global markets specialising in sports trading.
The Role
This position is designed for an operator who thrives close to live trading activity. The Operations Manager / COO will take ownership of day-to-day operational execution, ensuring trading activity scales cleanly, safely, and predictably.
Key Responsibilities
* Oversee trading operations across multiple live strategies, ensuring consistent execution standards and effective monitoring
* Partner closely with traders and researchers to ensure operational processes directly support trading performance
* Maintain oversight of capital allocation, execution workflows, and performance reporting
* Design and implement operational risk controls, exposure management frameworks, and escalation processes during drawdowns or periods of elevated volatility
* Act as the central coordination point between trading, research, engineering, and external service providers
* Own operational infrastructure including data flows, tooling, reporting, and vendor relationships
* Identify and resolve operational dependencies and issues proactively
* Contribute to hiring, team structure, and organisational scaling as the platform grows
Background & Experience
You will have held senior operational or leadership responsibility within a performance-driven, trading-focused environment. Relevant experience may include:
* Proprietary trading firms or hedge funds
* Quantitative or systematic trading businesses
* Sports betting syndicates or professional betting operations
* Execution-focused trading, desk management, or risk management roles
Skills & Attributes
* Comfortable operating in fast-moving, high-pressure environments
* Confident making decisions under uncertainty and communicating clearly across technical and non-technical teams
* Solid understanding of trading execution, operational risk, and performance monitoring
* High level of technical literacy across trading systems, data pipelines, and execution tooling
* Pragmatic, results-focused mindset with the ability to balance strategic oversight and hands-on delivery
