The Consultant Gastroenterologist will share responsibility for the delivery of a comprehensive gastroenterology service with consultant colleagues, including providing mutual cover for out-of-hours duties and leave. The role includes offering expert consultation and advisory support to colleagues across other specialties, working collaboratively through multidisciplinary meetings, and contributing to postgraduate education within the Trust. The post holder will play an active role in teaching, audit, research, clinical governance, and continuing professional development in line with Royal College of Physicians requirements. They will contribute to the effective management and development of the service, with opportunities to undertake leadership roles, and will work in accordance with the agreed consultant job plan, deploying flexible professional time to support emergency care, liaison activities, education, audit, and service improvement.
Qualifications
* MBBS or equivalent
* MRCP or equivalent
* Inclusion on the Specialist Register of GMC and/or hold CCT in Gastroenterology and General Internal Medicine or have an agreed date for it which is within 6 months of the date of interview.
* Full GMC Registration
Desirable Qualifications
* MD/PhD, Ability to provide expert clinical opinion across a wide range of problems within the specialty especially with a wide experience in General Internal Medicine and Gastroenterology
* Must be proficient in gastroscopy, colonoscopy
* Experience of working in and leading a multi-disciplinary team, balancing departmental and personal objectives.
* Training in sub-specialty complementary to that of the existing Consultants.
Academic Achievements
* Essential: Ability to use research outcomes in clinical practice
* Experience of conducting clinical audit
* Experience of using evidence base to support decision making
