Rate of Pay: £16.85 - £22.11 per hour
Summary:
Walsall Council is seeking a highly organised and detail-oriented Business Support Officer to provide professional and confidential administrative support within the Childrens Services department. The primary focus of this role (approximately 90%) will be minute taking for meetings involving sensitive and confidential matters related to vulnerable children and young people.
This position requires excellent listening, summarising, and written communication skills, as well as the ability to work effectively under pressure, ensuring accuracy and discretion at all times. The role is onsite full-time at Wednesbury.
Responsibilities:
* Attend and take accurate, detailed minutes of meetings, including complex and sensitive case discussions within Childrens Services.
* Ensure that minutes are recorded clearly, professionally, and in compliance with data protection and confidentiality standards.
* Prepare, format, and distribute meeting agendas, minutes, and supporting documents within agreed timescales.
* Maintain and update accurate electronic and paper records, filing systems, and databases.
* Liaise effectively with social workers, managers, and other stakeholders to ensure timely circulation of meeting documentation.
Qualification:
* GCSEs (or equivalent) in English and Mathematics essential.
* Business Administration or Secretarial qualification (e.g. NVQ Level 2/3 or equivalent) desirable.
Experience:
* Evidence of continued professional development desirable.
* Proven experience in minute taking, particularly within formal or confidential meetings (e.g., safeguarding, child protection, case conferences, or similar settings).
* Strong administrative and organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
* High attention to detail and accuracy in written documentation.
* Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion.
* Competent IT skills including Microsoft Office (Word, Outlook, Teams, Excel).
* Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, multi-disciplinary environment.
