About the role
At Booker, part of the Tesco Group, we’re proud to support independent retailers, caterers and small businesses across the UK. Our technology underpins how data flows across our business—helping us make better decisions and deliver great service to our customers.
We’re looking for a Systems Engineer – ETL to join our team and support the delivery of a new, modern data integration platform. If you enjoy bringing clarity to complex environments and working with a wide range of teams, this could be a great opportunity for you.
We’re committed to building a workplace where everyone feels welcome and able to be themselves—whatever your background, experience or perspective.
As a Systems Engineer – ETL, you’ll help coordinate the delivery of a new ETL solution, supporting the transition from current tooling to a more modern and simplified platform. You’ll work closely with Technology Product Managers and stakeholders to translate business and technical requirements into structured delivery activity.
You’ll play a key role in planning, tracking and supporting ETL migration work, ensuring processes are standardised, well-governed and successfully implemented. Working across multiple teams, you’ll help make sure data flows are clear, reliable and ready for the future.
Main Responsibilities
8. Translate business and technical requirements into clear delivery specifications for ETL solutions
9. Support the migration from existing ETL tooling to a new, modern platform
10. Identify current data flows, dependencies and transformation requirements across systems
11. Help define and document future-state ETL designs, standards and processes
12. Coordinate delivery activity across ETL migration workstreams, managing risks, dependencies and milestones
13. Work with business teams, developers, data teams and external partners to support joined-up delivery
14. Prepare and maintain documentation including migration plans, RAID logs, and status updates
15. Support data mapping, transformation, reconciliation and validation activities
16. Coordinate testing activity, including planning, defect tracking and business validation
17. Support implementation, cutover, go-live and post-delivery follow-up
18. Identify opportunities to simplify processes, reduce complexity and improve standardisation
19. Ensure delivery aligns with governance, security, audit and change control requirements
20. Contribute to continuous improvement of ETL delivery practices and documentation
You will need
21. Experience in a systems, delivery, data integration or ETL-related role within IT
22. Strong ability to translate business and technical requirements into structured delivery outputs
23. Experience coordinating delivery across multiple teams, stakeholders and suppliers
24. Experience supporting ETL, data migration or platform transition activity
25. Understanding of testing, reconciliation and validation as part of data delivery
26. Strong organisational and planning skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities
27. Clear communication skills, with confidence working across technical and non-technical teams
28. Experience producing structured documentation such as plans, reports and tracking logs
29. A proactive, detail-focused approach with strong ownership and follow-through
It’s a bonus if you have:
30. Experience with ETL tools, data transformation or enterprise data flows
31. Experience in retail, wholesale or other complex operational environments
