Technical Demonstrator Environmental Science and Geography
We are looking for a Technical Demonstrator to assist in providing and demonstrating specialist technical and practical equipment primarily in environmental science and geography, supporting academic and commercial programmes across the School's Technical Services.
About the Role
1. Provide technical support to tutors and students during laboratory sessions and fieldwork, including equipment such as UV-Vis and emission spectrophotometry, liquid chromatography, data loggers, field meters, survey equipment, and associated resources.
2. Assist in curriculum development and deliver supporting workshops and learning sessions.
3. Supervise students in learning activities, ensuring health and safety requirements are met.
4. Participate in staff development training as requested.
5. Manage and maintain specialist equipment and administer the booking system.
6. Ensure provision of materials and equipment for teaching, research, and income-generating activities.
7. Maintain accurate records and inventories of equipment and materials.
8. Collaborate with other demonstrators on equipment/software upgrades, replacements, and expansion.
9. Raise orders, check deliveries, and manage budgets in liaison with the authorized signatory.
10. Ensure health and safety compliance, including correct storage and disposal of materials, and conduct risk assessments.
11. Perform any other duties commensurate with skills, role, and grade.
About You
1. Experience with field survey techniques and equipment.
2. Experience with environmental laboratory techniques, including sample preparation and analysis of water, soil, and sediment.
3. Knowledge of health and safety procedures in the relevant field.
4. Excellent communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills.
5. Experience with spatial mapping software (e.g., QGIS, ArcGIS).
6. Teamwork skills.
7. Strong organizational and administrative skills.
8. Flexibility and reliability in managing workloads and priorities.
Additional Information
Salary Grade: Ac1 - GBP33,482 to GBP37,174 per annum. The salary range reflects potential maximum pay progression, with appointments typically at the lower end unless exceptional circumstances apply.
This is a full-time, permanent role with interviews scheduled for 16th July 2025. Some evening and weekend work may be required, with hours arranged in advance.
