Testimonial
I started my healthcare career as a care assistant at Trevaylor Manor, working there for seven years. During this time, I studied nursing at the Knowledge Spa and qualified as a nurse.
Gaining experience in the acute sector was invaluable, but I knew I belonged in elder care. I returned to a care home setting, working as a community nurse before rejoining Swallowcourt as a staff nurse at Ponsandane. The skills I learned are essential in this setting. The pace is fast, and residents’ health can change quickly. Many residents have multiple health conditions requiring specific management. The joy of working here is getting to know residents and their loved ones, allowing us to tailor care to be person-centered. Running shifts in a nursing home offers autonomy, decision-making, and close collaboration with GPs and the wider MDT.
I applied to become the home’s deputy manager, gaining insight into the home's operations and the broader care home environment. I am passionate about my role and privileged to contribute to residents' well-being. Our home is constantly evolving, caring for increasingly complex individuals, which offers challenges and learning opportunities. Our nurses are highly motivated, skilled, and supportive of others. Our specialist team continuously expands their skills to support the staff.
The future of Swallowcourt from a nurse’s perspective is bright and exciting, and I look forward to welcoming new nurses to our team.
