The role: On behalf of a local council, we are seeking a Senior Building Control Surveyor for a permanent role. It is essential that you have previous building control experience. Key Responsibilities: Enforce Building Regulations and allied legislation as a Registered Building Inspector under the Building Safety Act 2022. Manage development proposals through the Building Control process from pre-application to site completion, including major applications. Act as technical adviser and decision-maker on Building Control matters, including leading multi-disciplinary teams for High-Risk Buildings with the Building Safety Regulator. Maintain and apply specialist knowledge (e.g. building regulations, fire/structural engineering) and act as professional expert in appeals, determinations, and court proceedings. Lead and motivate staff, ensuring service priorities, compliance, and performance targets are achieved. Support revenue generation by maximising market share, delivering efficient invoicing, and determining applications within statutory timeframes. Provide technical oversight, training, and mentoring to junior surveyors, while upholding high ethical and professional standards. What the client is looking for: Hold a valid registration with the BSR at Class 3H. Ability to train and support staff as/when required Strong knowledge of Building Regulations, associated legislation, and the wider local authority context. Significant experience in Building Control within a major city or urban environment. Proven ability to manage substantial workloads across areas such as: plan examination, construction inspection, enforcement/public protection, structural or fire engineering. Excellent customer service skills with a strong commitment to equality and diversity. Strong written, verbal, and presentation skills, with the ability to communicate complex information clearly to the public, colleagues, and stakeholders. Competence in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, Internet Explorer) and a willingness to learn new systems.
