Overview
NEMS CBS is a high quality, high performing not-for-profit organisation delivering integrated urgent care and urgent primary care services. The Healthcare Assistant performs the initial assessment for walk-in patients, and with support assesses patient safety to wait. They must complete an extended competency requirement, including red flag analysis and escalation requirements.
Healthcare Assistants work as part of the multidisciplinary team, providing clinical support under the supervision of a clinician and in accordance with practice guidelines and protocols. They perform basic vital observations and may undertake basic housekeeping duties as directed. Flexibility in shift patterns and cross-site work may be required.
Responsibilities
* Work efficiently and professionally with the multidisciplinary team to provide a safe and efficient service to service users and their carers.
* Competently undertake and record baseline observations (after appropriate training): Temperature, Pulse, Respiration, Blood oxygen saturations, Blood pressure, Weight, Urinalysis, Blood Glucose, Peak Flow, ECG Recording, Venepuncture.
* Act as first point of contact with patients and/or carers, maintaining oversight of the waiting room.
* Liaise with clinicians on appropriate prioritisation of patients in the waiting room using early warning scores (e.g., PEWS, NEWS2).
* Work under minimal supervision with awareness of when to escalate concerns to a registered healthcare professional.
* Recognise changes in patients’ observations/condition and report to the nurse in charge or appropriate clinician.
* Assist with patient treatment including dressings, chaperone, and handling medical emergencies as directed.
* Feedback, report and escalate patient condition and welfare, including safeguarding, to the appropriate clinician.
Qualifications
* Essential: GCSEs in English and Maths (A-C).
* Desirable: NVQ Level 3 in Health and Social Care or equivalent.
Experience
* Essential: Minimum of two years experience as a Healthcare Assistant in a clinical setting (Primary Care or Urgent Care experience).

* Salary: £14.15 to £14.70 per hour plus unsocial enhancements
