Applications are invited for a HCPC Registered Senior Specialist Biomedical Scientist in Haematology. The work site will predominantly be based at the Princess Royal (Haywards Heath) site but there is a requirement to work across sites at the Royal Sussex County Hospital (Brighton) as and when required. Our current instrumentation includes: Sysmex, BD Biosciences, BioRad, Stago, Ortho Vision and StarrSed. We also provide comprehensive specialised haemostasis, haemoglobinopathy and immunophenotyping services.
You must have a Specialist IBMS Portfolio (or its predecessor, the CPSM/HPC logbook and oral examination). You must also have an MSc or equivalent qualification in the appropriate speciality and at least 4 years’ continuous post Specialist Portfolio registration (or CPSM/HPC logbook) experience within a diagnostic NHS Haematology laboratory.
You would be expected to have experience in delivering training, analyser troubleshooting and Quality management systems. You must have good knowledge of blood film morphology and technical knowledge of Haematology analytical instruments, be confident in leading a team and have good communication skills. Experience in specialised haematology services is advantageous. Evidence of competencies and knowledge will be required and will be assessed at interview.
The successful candidate is required to participate in the 24/7 shift working pattern after satisfying required competencies.
Main duties of the job
1. Quality activities to maintain UKAS accreditation status
2. Training and supervising of BMS and MLA staff and maintaining staff competency logs
3. Managing staffing in the sections
4. Ensuring analysers are maintained correctly and undertaking any troubleshooting that is required; dealing with engineer visits for maintenance and repairs.
5. Organising the sections around planned and unplanned analytical down time
6. Stock control and ordering of reagents and materials

18. NHS Haematology laboratory experience is essential
