Do you have a solid understanding of the greyhound industry? In this role you will be managing the paddock services for the Stadium to maintain the effective delivery of the greyhound racing product whilst implementing procedures and operate to standards which ensure the integrity and safety of greyhounds and handlers.
Key Responsibilities:
* To be responsible for the day to day management of the Paddock operations to ensure they run smoothly!
* Work closely with the Track & Maintenance Manager and Racing Manager to ensure the effective delivery of the greyhound racing product;
* Work with the Stadia Manager to effectively involve the Paddock team with the day to day activity of the Stadium and to ensure the team are communicated with;
* Ensure that no unlicensed person is allowed access to the paddock;
* Ensure all greyhounds are checked by a veterinary surgeon prior to racing or trialling;
* Be responsible for the management of the greyhounds, including ensuring that they are all placed and locked in correct kennels and they are presented in the correct racing jackets for each race;
* Ensure that all greyhounds earmarks, muzzles and jackets are checked before parade leaves paddock;
* On instruction from Racing Manager take a urine sample from specific greyhound;
* On Instruction from Racing Manager notify the Veterinary surgeon of any Greyhound to be checked for injury;
* Ensure Greyhounds are sent out to parade in good time before the “off”;
* Check paddock sheets for Greyhounds which require inoculation booster and notify the Trainer, Kennel Hand and/or Veterinary surgeon of any which are overdue;
* Always work within the guidelines of the GBGB rules of racing;
* Ensure that all paraders (internal and kennel hands) wear correct uniform as outlined by the Racing Manager;
* To keep up to date with relevant legislation regarding Paddock operations and update procedures where needed;
* Build, maintain and grow relationships with trainers and key contacts;
* Manage your team and provide coaching, objectives and goal setting, performance management and other people policies as the need arises, ensure they are motivated, productive and follows all regulations, legislation and team values and behaviours;
* To have overall responsibility for the recruitment, induction, training, development and management of all paddock staff;
* Implement all Paddock activity within budgeted expenditure.
Health & Safety and Compliance Responsibilities:
* To be responsible for ensuring that all paddock staff are aware of the Work Instruction Notices that are associated with their role and ensure that they have adequate training in those areas;
* Ensure the paddock staff comply with H&S requirements and legislation and raise concerns when required;
* Ensure the paddock assets are registered and maintained in line with appropriate H&S and legislative requirements;
Accountabilities:
* You are required to follow the Work Instruction Notices (WIN), or Stadia Operating Procedures (SOP) that are relevant to your role. These can be found on the company Intranet.
* The company may also communicate ad hoc notifications through line managers and notices boards - these will also form a part of your health and safety responsibilities.
Qualifications and Training Requirements:
* NVQ Animal Welfare
* GBGB License Holder
Specialist Skills and Experience:
* Minimum of 5 years’ experience working directly with greyhounds
* Solid understanding of the greyhound industry
* Ability to operate within a fast paced environment
