The role

The closing date is 07 July 2026.

The Heart, Lung and Critical Care Clinical Group at Guy's and St Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust (GSTT) is looking to appoint a substantive consultant cardiac electrophysiologist with a special interest in Adult Congenital Heart Disease (ACHD). This is a replacement post to maintain deliver of electrophysiology and cardiac electronic device implantation as well as to support the growth and development of a cross site clinical and academic programme focused on the management of cardiac arrhythmias in adults with congenital heart disease.

The post-holder will be a fully trained and independent consultant cardiologist and electrophysiologist. The individual will be able to perform outpatient clinics independently, run catheter laboratory electrophysiology intervention and device lists for investigation and treatment of patients with cardiac arrhythmias as well as participate in the Consultant of the Week and Arrhythmia on-call rotas. The successful candidate will support the catheter laboratories and wards by supervising the resident specialist trainees and clinical fellows in the day-to-day delivery of care. The post will involve close working with the Arrhythmia Clinical Nurse Specialists to prepare patients for their procedures and to coordinate inter-hospital transfers for treatment.

Main duties of the job

The post is a substantive 10 PA consultant appointment delivering a fixed weekly timetable across two sites (St Thomas' and Royal Brompton/ELCH), including catheter laboratory EP and device lists, Arrhythmia and ACHD MDTs, ACHD EP clinic, general outpatient clinics and ward cover. The post holder is also required to participate in the Consultant of the Week rota (1 in 27), the EP Consultant of the Week rota (1 in 7) and the Category A Arrhythmia on-call rota (1 in 7). This pattern of cross-site DCC commitments, fixed MDT attendance and three separate on-call rotas cannot be discharged on a less-than-full-time basis without creating gaps in scheduled lists, MDT representation and out-of-hours cover. LTFT working will be considered for the appointed candidate where compatible with service need, in line with the JD.
