As a Senior Medical Secretary, you will be a highly valued member of the Medicine Division, providing comprehensive and proactive secretarial support to Consultant‑led teams. You will act as a point of contact for clinicians, patients and external agencies, ensuring high standards of communication, organisation and professionalism at all times.
Responsibilities
* Provide a personal assistant and senior medical secretarial service directly to Consultants under the medicine business group.
* Undertake medical audio/copy typing duties, including outpatient letters to General Practitioners and any other official correspondence (e.g., reports).
* Arrange appointments as required.
* Deal with day‑to‑day incoming mail, assigning priority and/or taking any necessary action without reference to consultant staff if necessary and within remit.
* Ensure patient pathways are updated as appropriate.
* Respond to enquiries received from GP’s and other Health Personnel, patients and relatives.
* Liaise with Health Records/Appointments staff regarding outpatient clinic numbers, urgent appointments and Consultant/Junior Medical Staff annual leave.
* Cover, as practical, other secretarial team members absences.
* Undertake any other duties as may be required, as appropriate by the Consultant or line manager in accordance with the needs of the service.
