Job Description This is a part-time post the salary will be pro-rata'd to the hour worked. The post holder’s main focus is to work within a residential children’s house (Health and Social Care Partnership - HSCP) in West Dunbartonshire with a base in the Blairvadach Children’s House, The Bungalows, Shandon, Near Rhu. Duties will include hot and cold food preparation and providing a cooking service for the young people and staff who live and work in Blairvadach. This will involve working alongside young people to accommodate their food preferences while offering options to ensure a balanced and healthy diet. By providing wholesome, balanced meals in a warm and caring environment our catering assistant contributes significantly to creating a sense of home, security and routine. In addition to the preparation of meals our catering assistant also plays an important part in welcoming people to our house. Following our most recent inspections, our kitchen dining area has been described as ‘the heart of the home’ and we are hopeful that any candidate would continue to create a sense of warmth and feeling of a family style atmosphere to our young people and any visiting guests. The role will also involve completing tasks set by the house management team such as general cleaning, hygiene and maintenance of the kitchen, surrounding storage area and equipment. Compliance with all relevant food hygiene legislation is required. The role of Blairvadach Children’s House is to provide a homely, safe, caring and loving environment and standard of care to support children and young people to recover from their experiences of early trauma and the kitchen plays a central part in the house and also in this care. Requirements This post is considered a Regulated Role with Children and Adults under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act 2020 and as such membership with the PVG scheme is essential. Preferred applicants will be required to become members of the relevant PVG scheme, or undergo a PVG Scheme update check prior to a formal offer being made by West Dunbartonshire Council.
