Job Overview
Our Clinical Healthcare Support Workers are integral to our nursing teams. It takes flexibility, commitment and compassion, but we offer a rewarding career where you can really make a difference.
You will assist in patient care and other ward‑related duties under the supervision of a registered nurse. Your duties include routine tasks, activities, and any other responsibilities for which you are assessed as competent. You will work as part of a team, contributing to patient care alongside nursing colleagues and other multidisciplinary staff, and you will follow unit philosophies and hospital policies at all times.
You will start on our healthcare support worker induction programme to learn the skills you need to be confident and competent. We will also support you in working toward achieving the Care Certificate if you do not already hold it.
What you can expect to be doing in this role
You will be a core member of the team delivering personal care, both clinical and non‑clinical, to patients. You’ll help patients with their own self‑care, independence, and support registered nurses in delivering high‑quality, compassionate care in line with individual care plans. The role is busy and requires balancing changing tasks.
Main duties of the job
* Assist in providing individualised patient care in accordance with instructions and training, reporting any changes in condition promptly.
* Under direction, undertake additional duties when trained and competent, including accurately recording patient vital signs and recognising and reporting abnormalities.
* Promote and maintain patient privacy and dignity.
* Ensure patient confidentiality is respected at all times, including verbal and written information.
* Contribute to patient assessments, ensuring information from patients is handed to the registered nurse.
* Provide support and reassurance to patients and others at times of loss or distress, ensuring the nurse in charge is aware of communication.
* Help maintain a safe environment, reporting any hazards and taking appropriate action to remove them.
* Assist the registered nurse team to ensure equipment is kept clean, well‑maintained, and ready for use; broken items are sent promptly for repair in accordance with local procedures.
* Assist the nursing team with maintaining supplies and stocks.
* Assist in maintaining ward cleanliness and tidiness, and adhere to Infection Control Policy at all times.

* Qualifications and Credit Framework (QCF) Level 3 (NVQ, BTEC or equivalent in healthcare).
* OR demonstrate an equivalent level of experience.
* Currently working in an acute care hospital setting and hold the Care Certificate.
Desirable
* More than 1 year experience in an acute care hospital setting.
* Existing Care Certificate.
* Understanding of NHS and social care systems.
Person specification – Knowledge and Skills
