Overview
You’ll be playing a pivotal role in maintaining, enhancing and ensuring the compliance of building services across Somerset Council’s corporate and commercial property portfolio.
This role involves proactively managing installations, conducting planned and reactive maintenance of gas systems, and performing repairs to ensure statutory compliance with Gas Safety regulations, supporting the Council’s strategy for safe, sustainable and compliant building operations.
The role requires close collaboration with internal teams and external contractors to guarantee that all gas installations meet the highest safety standards.
Responsibilities
* Proactively manage installations and conduct planned and reactive maintenance of gas systems.
* Perform repairs to ensure statutory compliance with Gas Safety regulations.
* Coordinate specialist works and procurements with contractors and suppliers.
* Respond to emergency callouts and participate in an out-of-hours rota.
* Support the decarbonisation project and other strategic initiatives.
* May involve working at height, manual handling, and hand/arm vibration.
Qualifications & Experience
* Gas Safe registered.
* Knowledge of Gas Safety Regulations, Building Regulations, and Health and Safety Act.
* Registered commercial and domestic gas qualifications.
* OFTEC accreditation, WRAS certification.
* Technical proficiency and previous experience in installation, maintenance, and repair of commercial gas systems.
* Valid UK driving licence (or ability to travel to a diverse portfolio of sites).
* DBS check required.
Salary & Benefits
The salary for the role is Grade 11 – £32,597 to £36,363 per annum.
A supplement allowance of £3,000 per annum is linked to the Gas Engineer (Building Services Engineer), bringing the salary to £35,597 – £39,363 per annum. This allowance is subject to NI, tax and pension deductions and will be paid in accordance with standard payroll procedures.
The allowance is time‑limited and will expire on 31/03/2029.
