Controls Engineer - Manufacturing

This role is conveniently located within easy commuting distance of Hull, Goole, Scunthorpe and Grimsby, making it an excellent opportunity for a skilled Controls Engineer across the region.
The Role
As a Controls Engineer, you will play a key role in maintaining, improving, and supporting automated production systems. You'll be instrumental in ensuring equipment reliability, minimising downtime, and driving continuous improvement across the site.
Key Responsibilities
* Maintain and support automated production equipment including PLCs, HMIs, drives, sensors, and control panels.
* Diagnose and resolve electrical and control system faults to minimise disruption.
* Modify and enhance PLC and HMI programmes to improve performance and reliability.
* Support commissioning of new machinery and control systems.
* Collaborate with mechanical engineers and production teams to identify root causes of issues.
* Carry out planned preventative maintenance (PPM) on electrical systems.
* Assist with control system upgrades and automation projects.
* Ensure compliance with UK electrical standards and safety regulations.
* Maintain accurate documentation including schematics and maintenance records.
* Provide technical support and guidance to colleagues on site.
Skills & Experience
Essential:
* HNC/HND, Degree or equivalent in Electrical or Control Engineering.
* Experience in a fast‑paced manufacturing or industrial environment.
* Strong knowledge of PLCs, HMIs, and variable speed drives.
* Proven electrical fault‑finding skills on automated machinery.
* Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics.
* Good understanding of industrial safety standards.
* Strong problem‑solving skills and a proactive mindset.
Desirable:
* Experience with Siemens, Allen‑Bradley or Mitsubishi PLCs.
* Knowledge of industrial networks (Ethernet/IP, Profinet, Modbus).
* Experience with SCADA systems.
* 18th Edition Wiring Regulations.
* Exposure to robotics or advanced automation.
