Job Summary The H. Lavity Stoutt Community College is seeking a suitably qualified BVIslander or Belonger to fill the role of Security Guard at the Paraquita Bay Campus. The Security Guard will promote an environment that provides for the safety and security of all persons and their personal property, and College premises and property by patrolling property; monitoring surveillance equipment; inspecting buildings, equipment, and access points and permitting entry. The Security Guard also ensures that all applicable College rules and regulations are enforced and maintained. Duties and Responsibilities Perform vehicle and foot patrol of the campus to monitor behavior and report suspicious activities; Examine doors, windows and gates to ensure security; open and close buildings and monitor unoccupied areas for unauthorized persons; Monitor parking areas and provide assistance as needed; Perform regular security rounds as scheduled; Respond to emergency situations by providing first aid and alerting the administration, police or emergency personnel as appropriate; Maintain communication with supervisor and other safety personnel on campus; Maintain a concise activity log and prepare surveillance reports; Prepare and submit incident reports to supervisor as required; Maintain order on campus and report all incidents and accidents as prescribed in the procedures; Enforce College rules and regulations pertaining to students, faculty, staff and visitors while on HLSCC property; Assist in coordinating emergency plans such as fire drills; Enforce emergency procedures during evacuations and pending identified emergency situations; Set up and breakdown functions as assigned; and Any other duties that may be assigned on an as-needed basis Competencies Must have a neat and clean appearance while on duty. Ability to learn and execute established security principles, practices and procedures. Deal courteously but firmly with all persons. Understand and follow oral and written instructions. Use discretion, make independent decisions and display sound judgment in both routine and emergency situations. Available for on-call emergencies. Qualifications and Experience The minimum qualification required is a High School Diploma. At least two years prior experience in a similar role. Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
