APPRENTICE – ENGINEERING SYSTEMS (MECHANICAL & ELECTRICAL)
We are currently looking to recruit 2 apprentices to join our Maintenance Team, one
will be Mechanical biased, and the other Electrical biased.
As an apprentice at Ahlstrom, you will be joining a well-established and respected
organisation where you will be provided with the training, guidance, and support
required to develop valuable skills, gain sought-after qualifications, and establish
yourself as a valued member of the maintenance team.
This is a four-year Modern Apprenticeship programme. During year one you will attend
Edinburgh College on a 2-days per week basis to achieve SVQ Level 2 in
Performing Engineering Operations. During year two you will also attend Edinburgh
College 2 days per week to study for a relevant National Certificate.
During years three and four you will attend college 1 day per week to attain a relevant HNC and
will spend 4 days per week working with the maintenance team on-site to
develop your practical skills and start to work towards the SVQ Level 3 Diploma in
Engineering at SCQF level 7 (Engineering Asset Lifecycle and Maintenance). Years 3 &
4 you will be working within the maintenance team on site where you will further
develop your practical skills and work towards completing your SVQ Level 3.
Depending on grades achieved during your apprenticeship studies at college in achieving your HNC, the Company may support you further in undertaking a relevant
degree course.

In order to be considered for this opportunity, you must achieve a National 5 grade ‘B’ (or equivalent) in Maths and English, it is also desirable that you have two
other subjects preferably technical, or science-related. In addition, you must have a genuine interest in engineering, an aptitude for learning, and the commitment and
ability to travel to college.
