We are seeking an enthusiastic and experienced Biomedical Scientist to join our team as part of the Tees Valley Pathology (TVP) service. TVP provides a service across our hospital group structure which includes the University Hospital Tees sites including North Tees and Hartlepool Hospitals, and the Friarage Hospital Northallerton and James Cook University Hospital sites.

Immunology is part of the biochemistry directorate and the departments are based at the James Cook hospital site but successful candidates will be required to attend all sites as required. This role will support both the Immunology and biochemistry areas as we introduce new equipment and automation into the laboratory.

Candidates for this post should be HCPC registered, hold an IBMS accredited specialist portfolio in Immunology or Biochemistry and have experience of working various shifts across both core and non-core hours. Consideration may be given to other healthcare scientist practitioners who demonstrate, on application, the appropriate knowledge, skills and Qualification applicable to the post .

Consideration may be given to those who do not yet have the required master's degree or equivalence or require support to achieve this.


Main duties of the job

You will play a key role in performing, interpreting, and authorising a wide range of specialist Immunology investigations, supporting the diagnosis and management of autoimmune, allergic, and immunodeficiency disorders.

The post-holder will also:

Lead and support service improvement and innovation projects to enhance quality, efficiency, and turnaround times in both Immunology and Biochemistry

Supervise day-to-day laboratory operations, staff, and workflows, ensuring service demands and KPIs are met.

Support assay development, validation, and implementation of new technologies.

Maintain UKAS accreditation through effective quality control, audit, and documentation.

Collaborate closely with the clinical lead and other senior staff to develop and deliver a responsive and efficient service.

Provide training, mentorship, and appraisals for Biomedical Scientists, trainees, and support staff.

* BSc (Hons) Biomedical Science or equivalent degree
* IBMS Specialist Diploma in Clinical Immunology or MSc in a relevant subject or relevant experience (if not completed needs to be within 3 months of appointment)
* Evidence of ongoing CPD


Knowledge


Essential

* Detailed understanding of biomedical sciences principles and laboratory methods.
* Knowledge of UKAS and ISO 15189 accreditation requirements.
* In depth knowledge and understanding of all relevant legislation, standards, guidelines and protocols.
* Ability to manage and prioritise workloads effectively.
* Strong communication, teamwork, and leadership skills.
* Competence in using LIMS and Microsoft Office applications.


Desirable

* Knowledge of Quality Systems

* Experience in a UKAS-accredited laboratory (immunology preferrable).
* Proficiency in techniques such as EIA, indirect immunofluorescence, electrophoresis, and immunoblotting
