Are you a Graduate at the start of your career and looking to apply your laboratory and characterising skills in a commercial setting, getting to see the real-world impact of your work?
Promethean Particles is a global pioneer in the development and scale manufacturing of high-specification advanced materials. Our mission is to help decarbonise the world by unleashing the potential of metal-organic frameworks (MOFs).
We are looking for a laboratory technician to join Promethean’s Research and Development (R&D) team, supporting our ground breaking work in the research, development and large-scale manufacture of MOFs.
Working collaboratively with Promethean’s R&D and manufacturing teams, you will play a core role in the safe and effective operation of our laboratory facility. You will work alongside with our synthetic and application chemists to support the synthesis, processing, and analytical characterisation of MOFs. You will design and undertake laboratory-scale experiments to support and inform R&D activities and provide laboratory support to our manufacturing team as we continue to transition MOF production to the multi-tonne scale.
You will be playing a central role in Promethean’s mission to unleash the power of MOFs. You will work with intent and urgency in this rapidly evolving area, prioritising needs above wants and appreciate the importance of effective teamwork and open communication when working in a small team.
Candidates should have:
* A degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, or a similar laboratory-based subject, with industrial experience considered an advantage.
* Experience working in a dynamic laboratory environment, including hands-on practical work, with an awareness of quality assurance and quality control practices considered an advantage.
* Experience creating, revising, and following standard operating procedures (SOPs) for laboratory processes.
* Experience characterising samples through a range of analytical techniques, such as X-Ray Diffraction (XRD), Infrared Spectroscopy (FT-IR), Thermogravimetric Analysis (TGA), X-Ray Fluorescence (XRF) and Nitrogen adsorption analysis.
* Experience liaising with equipment manufacturers to identify and solve instrument issues.
* A sound appreciation for the Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) implications of working in a laboratory environment, including familiarity with risk and COSHH assessments.
* An ability to proactively prioritise work across multiple projects within tight timelines, managing stakeholder expectations where appropriate.
* An ability to effectively communicate results and concepts to technical and non-technical audiences, through a variety of formats (written reports, presentations, etc.).
* A right to work in the UK without restriction, as this role does not come with visa sponsorship.
