Specialist Antimicrobial Pharmacist

Join our Antimicrobial Stewardship pharmacy team led by a Consultant Pharmacist. This role is key in developing and implementing a framework for the safe, cost‑effective, and rational use of antimicrobials across the Trust, shaping local prescribing policies and driving stewardship strategies.
Main Duties
* Lead independent antimicrobial ward rounds, providing expert advice and optimising prescribing.
* Lead the Outpatient Parenteral Antimicrobial Therapy (OPAT) service, covering patient assessment, prescribing oversight, monitoring, and care coordination.
* Provide supervision, mentorship and training to junior pharmacists, pre‑registration pharmacists, and other healthcare professionals in antimicrobial stewardship.
* Develop, review and implement local antimicrobial prescribing policies and guidelines, aligned with national recommendations.
* Design and lead antimicrobial audits, analyse data to identify improvements and drive change for enhanced quality and cost‑effectiveness.
* Collaborate closely with the Lead Directorate Pharmacist, Consultant Microbiologists, Infection Control teams and other staff to deliver strategic AMS initiatives.
* Lead innovation by engaging with and helping evolve Computer Decision Support Systems (CDSS) used for AMS rounds.
* Actively contribute to medication safety by reducing antimicrobial medication errors.
Person Specification
* Vocational Master’s Degree in Pharmacy (or equivalent) and completion of pre‑registration training.
* Registered as a practising pharmacist with the General Pharmaceutical Council.
* Experience in multidisciplinary working and ward rounds.
* Experience or training in education and training delivery.
* Ability to negotiate effectively with senior clinicians.
* Advanced level of clinical reasoning and judgement, capable of managing difficult and ambiguous problems.
* Capacity to plan, prioritise and organise own and others’ workload.
* Influence senior pharmacy and medical staff, the multidisciplinary team and management.
* Demonstrated autonomy in clinical decision‑making.
* Experience in writing policies, procedures and guidelines (clinical and non‑clinical).
* Registered Pharmacist Independent Prescriber or willingness to qualify.
* Specialist clinical pharmacy experience with antimicrobials / infectious diseases.
Employment Details
Contract: Permanent
Working pattern: Cross Site – Primarily based at West Middlesex Hospital. Some roles may require weekend shifts at multiple sites.
Salary: £63,665 to £70,887 per annum including HCAS
Employment is subject to a six‑month probationary period.
