The role
As a Workshop Trainer, you’ll be joining a highly skilled and motivated team delivering practical training to Army students at all levels. You will play a key role in providing the essential skills, knowledge and confidence trainees need to succeed in their chosen engineering trade — all within a supportive environment that offers excellent work–life balance.
Day-to-day, you’ll be:
1. Delivering practical workshop training in hand skills, bench fitting, cranes and workshop technology.
2. Creating and preparing engaging learning materials using modern techniques, including digital and technology‑enhanced learning.
3. Supporting and guiding trainees through their learning journey, providing feedback and coaching.
4. Assisting with course administration, design processes and equipment management.
5. Reviewing and updating training content to keep pace with evolving technology and equipment.
This is a full‑time role, working 37 hours per week and is based on site at MOD Lyneham, Wiltshire.
Essential experience of the Workshop Trainer:
6. Skilled in the use of precision measuring equipment and calibration tools (e.g., gauge blocks, slip gauges).
7. Ability to manufacture or fabricate to engineering drawings.
8. Hands‑on fabrication skills using workshop hand tools.
9. Strong craft/technical skills with experience in engineering bench fitting, milling and turning.
Qualifications for the Workshop Trainer:
Minimum City & Guilds Part 3 or above, or NVQ Level 3 (or equivalent).

The successful candidate must be able to achieve and maintain Security Check (SC) / Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service Check (EDBS) security clearance for this role.
