We are seeking a reliable and physically fit Hospital Porter to join our facilities team, responsible for the safe and efficient exchange of waste carts across the hospital. This role plays a vital part in maintaining hygiene and supporting hospital operations by transporting general, clinical, and hazardous waste to designated disposal areas. The successful candidate will follow strict health and safety guidelines, wear appropriate PPE, and ensure waste handling is done in line with infection control procedures. Shift work may be required.
Key Responsibilities:
1. To collect and replace waste carts from designated collection points.
2. Safely transport various types of waste, including clinical and hazardous materials.
3. Maintain cleanliness and hygiene of waste storage and transfer areas.
4. Follow infection control and waste disposal protocols.
5. Work closely with cleaning, nursing, and facilities staff to ensure smooth operations.
About You
You are a dependable and hard-working individual who takes pride in keeping environments clean, safe, and running smoothly. Physically fit and comfortable with manual handling tasks, you understand the importance of following procedures - especially when dealing with clinical and hazardous waste. You’re proactive, punctual, and able to work well both independently and as part of a wider team. You take health and safety seriously and are willing to learn and follow infection control guidelines. Previous experience in a hospital or facilities setting is helpful but not essential - what matters most is your positive attitude and strong work ethic.
Requirements:
6. Good physical stamina for lifting and pushing heavy carts.
Understanding of health, safety, and infection control procedures (training provided).
7. Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
8. Reliability and attention to detail.
