Position Overview:
The role of the Ultra Low Latency Network Specialist is to ensure the stability and integrity of all aspects that comprise the Squarepoint global trading collocation network which includes infrastructure in 30 data centre sites across AMER, APAC and EMEA. The Ultra Low Latency Network Specialist will oversee and participate with the installation, monitoring, maintenance, support, optimization, and documentation of all network hardware, security hardware, software and connectivity. This includes managing multiple projects and configuring/optimizing the network to ensure ultra-low latency is achieved for intraday trading and direct market access systems. This team collaborates and are closely aligned with trading systems developers, enabling the technology team to deliver an optimal trading platform.
1. Architect, engineer and aid in initial deployment of ultra-low latency network infrastructure at Colocation datacentres (DC)
2. Ensure comprehensive operational control and reporting, providing actionable information to optimize the performance of the trading infrastructure. Build/update procedures and documentation
3. Escalation point to support changes to the global collocation environment in all Squarepoint co-location sites and datacentres. Travel may be required
4. Provide L3 escalation support to remediate performance and availability issues
5. Identify areas for generating efficiencies adopting automation and innovative solutions for improvements.
Required Qualifications:
6. Degree in Electrical or Computer engineering, Computer Science or related Information Technology discipline
7. CCIE Routing & Switching (Enterprise Infrastructure) certified including lab
8. Minimum of 8 years of network engineering and project delivery experience
9. Extensive knowledge of routing and switching protocols
10. Unicast: OSPF, BGP, NAT, IPSEC and GRE
11. Multicast: PIM, RP, MSDP, IGMP
12. Switching: STP, PC/vPC/MLAG, CDP/LLDP, QoS, HSRP/VRRP, VLAN/VxLAN
13. Authoritative level experience and skill with Arista and Cisco network switching, routing hardware, L1 devices and software
14. Outstanding knowledge of network monitoring PCAP decoding tools landscape
15. Proficient in a scripting language - Python preferred
16. Trade flow analysis: Understanding protocols used by various exchanges: FIX, BOE, OUCH/ITCH, PILLAR, SBE, OMEX
17. Familiarity with different network switch vendors and different switch architectures.
18. Experience with working with FPGA based applications and L1 network design.
The minimum base salary for this role is $80,000 if located in New York. This expectation is based on available information at the time of posting. This role may be eligible for discretionary bonuses, which could constitute a significant portion of total compensation. This role may also be eligible for benefits, such as health, dental, and other wellness plans, as well as 401(k) contributions. Successful candidates’ compensation and benefits will be determined in consideration of various factors.
