This role is critical in ensuring that works promoters comply with the national codes of practice at all times, as well as the requirements of the Cheshire West and Chester permit scheme. You will require good communication skills to work effectively with colleagues and stakeholders, and enjoy working in an outdoor environment. You should have knowledge and experience relating to the New Roads and Street Works Act 1991, in particular Code of Practice for Inspections and Specifications for Reinstatement of Openings in Highways and how a Permit Scheme for Street and Road Works operate. It would be beneficial to have experience of completing inspections and ensuring they are accurately recorded, reported and following through with any enforcement action should it be required. You should be able to evidence recent experience of working within a street works/highways/similar inspector position. The role will involve, but not limited to: Arranging and attending Joint Site Meetings with Statutory Undertakers and their contractors to discuss defects and remedial works. Carry out overstay site inspections and take photographs to ensure the network keeps moving Identify defective works and undertake the appropriate inspection regime, issuing defect notices and follow up until remedial works are completed to a satisfactory standard Dealing with enquiries relating to Streetworks across the borough from members of the public, works promoters, parish councils and Ward Members. Undertake a set number of sample inspections Inspect licenced works as appropriate. The contractual work location for this role is the Area Highways Office in Guilden Sutton near Chester however, you will predominately be site based, you may be required to work from a range of work locations or sites within the Borough and may also occasionally be required to work from home, depending on the needs of the service. You may also have the opportunity to work weekends on a rota basis when needed.
