Highly Specialist Occupational Therapist

A fantastic opportunity has arisen for a Highly Specialist Occupational Therapist to join the stroke therapy team based at Peterborough City Hospital. The overall stroke pathway comprises of a HASU and ASU at Peterborough City Hospital and acute beds at Hinchingbrooke Hospital. The position is mainly at Peterborough City Hospital however flexibility will be required to provide cross-site cover.

We require a motivated, forward-thinking candidate who is passionate in providing high quality stroke and neuro-rehabilitation in line with the evidence base and national guidelines. The post holder will develop both the quality of the clinical service and the staff that deliver it. Experience in training, clinical leadership and strong communication skills to work alongside stakeholders from across the stroke pathway are essential. The successful candidate will manage a varied and complex clinical caseload. Regular clinical supervision, managerial support and training opportunities will be provided to ensure personal career development. Weekend/ bank holiday working will be required.

Interviews for this role will be conducted in person to assess relevant skills effectively.


Main duties of the job

The Highly Specialist Occupational Therapist working with the Stroke Therapy Team develops the quality of the clinical service and staff that deliver it. The post holder will work using an enhanced level of practice applying specialist knowledge and skills in the field of Stroke rehabilitation. They will assess and treat a specialist complex caseload of patients.

They will act as the profession specific lead to support the training and development of the clinical staff within the Stroke therapy team and wider multidisciplinary team. To lead on service development, audit and assist in research initiatives to deliver on best practice evidence based care in line with trust and national priorities. To be responsible for the delivery of key quality performance indicators linked to providing high quality care.

Person Specification


Qualifications

* Degree/Diploma in Occupational Therapy
* HCPC Registered
* Evidence of CPD (portfolio)
* Evidence of post graduate training/qualification relevant to clinical area - Stroke
* RCOT member
* Member of RCOT Specialist section - Neurological Practice


Experience

* NHS experience working at senior level
* Clinical experience within Stroke
* Experience within acute inpatient hospital environment
* Multi-Disciplinary working
* Demonstrate active involvement in the audit process
* Experience of supervising and mentoring junior members of staff and pre-registration students
* Experience of developing staff and sharing knowledge
* Experience of change management
* Ability to demonstrate working with regional/national networks


Knowledge

* Demonstrate sound level of theoretical profession specific knowledge
* Evidence of current practices and developments within the field of Stroke rehabilitation
* Sound knowledge of interventions relevant to clinical area


Key Skills

* Ability to work autonomously and as part of a team
* Leadership and motivational skills
* High level of clinical reasoning
* Ability to make timely and appropriate decisions.
* Strong organisation, prioritisation and delegation skills
* Ability to present information in a logical and concise manner
* Standard key board skills & the ability to use IT packages such as Word, Outlook, Power point & Excel
