Overview

Job Title: Team Leader – Residential Childcare

Location: Northampton

Hourly Rate: £14.75 per hour + £55 per sleep-in

Hours: 40 hours per week (3 shifts + 1 sleep-in)

Due to the opening of new residential homes, The Banyan Tree is expanding! We are looking for passionate and experienced Team Leaders to join our growing team and help shape the future for young people aged 8–18 with emotional and behavioural difficulties.


About Us

The Banyan Tree provides a comprehensive, therapeutic residential service for young people with emotional and behavioural challenges. Our mission is to support their physical, emotional, and social development in a safe, nurturing, and structured environment.


Purpose of the Role

As a Team Leader, you will play a pivotal role in providing high-quality care and support to our young residents. You’ll help lead a team of residential care staff, ensuring that care practices meet the highest standards while creating a supportive and engaging environment.


Key Responsibilities

* Deliver safe, consistent, and therapeutic care for young people aged 8–18.
* Provide a warm, supportive environment and actively participate in day-to-day activities with residents (e.g., games, outings, hobbies).
* Contribute to the implementation and regular review of individual care plans.


Team Leadership

* Support the Home Manager in the day-to-day running of the home.
* Delegate tasks and oversee the daily routines of the home and the team.
* Ensure staff operate in line with policies, care plans, and safeguarding practices.


Household Management

* Take part in household duties (e.g., cooking, cleaning, gardening) and encourage young people to engage in caring for their living space.
* Promote and maintain high standards of cleanliness and presentation throughout the home.


Administration & Records

* Maintain accurate and detailed records, including logs, care plans, incident reports, and medication administration.
* Attend and contribute to reviews, planning meetings, and case conferences.


Key Working & Engagement

* Act as a key worker for designated young people, offering regular 1:1 sessions and emotional support.
* Encourage and maintain appropriate contact between residents and their families.


Professional Development

* Attend regular supervision, team meetings, and training sessions.
* Be an active, reflective member of the team, seeking feedback and learning opportunities.


What We’re Looking For

* Experience working with young people with emotional and behavioural difficulties.
* Strong leadership skills and the ability to motivate and guide a team.
* Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of young people.
* Resilience, empathy, and the ability to manage challenging situations professionally.
* Flexibility to work shifts, including evenings, weekends, and sleep-ins.
* NVQ Level 3 in Residential Childcare (or equivalent) is desirable or willingness to work towards it.
