About the Role:
We seek an experienced Lead Technical Architect with expertise in cloud-based architectures to join our team. You will design, implement, and oversee advanced cloud infrastructure solutions for mission-critical systems, leveraging your knowledge of security architecture on cloud platforms to provide technical leadership in building scalable, secure, and resilient cloud-native systems based on AWS, Kubernetes, Kafka, microservices, Java, and event-driven design.
Key Responsibilities:

2. Cloud Security: Develop and implement security architectures ensuring data protection, compliance, and adherence to industry best practices (AWS IAM, encryption, VPC, security monitoring, auditing).
3. Containerisation & Orchestration: Architect and oversee containerised environments with Kubernetes for high availability and scalability.
4. Event-Driven Systems: Lead the design of event-driven systems with Kafka, managing messaging frameworks for real-time data processing.
5. Microservices Architecture: Oversee development of microservices-based systems, focusing on Java backend services.
6. Technical Leadership: Mentor teams, guiding complex technical challenges and architectural decisions.
7. Security & Compliance: Ensure architectures meet industry regulations (GDPR, HIPAA) and security policies, implementing necessary controls.
8. CI/CD & Automation: Promote CI/CD pipelines, infrastructure as code (Terraform, CloudFormation), and automation for reliable delivery.
9. Collaboration: Work with DevOps, engineering, product management, and stakeholders to align strategies.
10. Performance & Cost Optimisation: Drive performance tuning, cost management, and resource optimisation.
11. Risk Management: Identify and mitigate technical risks.
12. Documentation & Standards: Maintain architectural standards, design patterns, and documentation.
The Fit:
Ideal candidates will have experience designing and implementing large-scale, distributed cloud systems with a focus on AWS. Additional skills include:
* Extensive cloud security architecture knowledge, including AWS security best practices.
* Deep expertise with Docker and Kubernetes in production.
* Experience with event-driven architectures and Kafka.
* Background in microservices and Java backend development.
* Knowledge of CI/CD, infrastructure as code (Terraform, CloudFormation), and automated deployment.
* Strong communication and leadership skills, with mentoring abilities.
* Experience with monitoring tools (Prometheus, Grafana, ELK Stack) and cloud cost strategies.
* Familiarity with serverless architectures and AWS Lambda.
* AWS certifications (Solutions Architect, Security – Specialty) preferred.
* Understanding of architectural standards and frameworks such as TOGAF.
