Overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join our fantastic team within the Emergency Department in Forth Valley Royal Hospital, Larbert. We are seeking applications from highly motivated individuals to apply for a Band 6 Deputy Charge nurse role. We require relevant Emergency Department experience, as this is predominantly a senior clinical role in a specialist area. The rapid turnover of patients requires you to effectively manage a caseload of patients with a variety of conditions.


Key Responsibilities

* Prioritise and manage clinically unwell patients and facilitate safe admissions, discharges, and transfers.
* Manage end‑of‑life care, acutely unwell and deteriorating patients, as well as patients with mental health and substance misuse issues.
* Lead nursing in our Resuscitation rooms – Adult and Paediatrics. Experience of working with both patient groups is essential.
* Act as the Nurse in Charge and co‑ordinate the department on both day and night shifts.
* Carry out highly skilled care planning and assessment and maintain good clinical acumen.
* Lead, support and manage staff on a regular basis, acting as a team leader who facilitates, supports and manages staff.
* Serve as a role model for compassionate care, advocate for patient safety and quality care, and act with candour.
* Mentor, precept and facilitate the training and development of staff and students within the Emergency Department.
* Work a flexible work pattern which includes days, nights, weekends, and public holiday rotation.


Required Experience & Qualifications

* Experience managing the acutely unwell, deteriorating patient – essential.
* Experience caring for patients who are end‑of‑life, acutely unwell, deteriorating, and patients with mental health and substance misuse issues.
* Experience working with both adult and paediatric patients.
* Strong leadership skills with the ability to manage staff.
* Commitment to mentoring, precepting and facilitating development within the Emergency Department.


Working Hours and Pay

As from 1/4/26, the Agenda for Change full‑time working week will be reducing from 37 to 36 hours per week. Part‑time hours will be reduced pro‑rata. There will be a corresponding increase in the hourly rate so that pay will not be affected.
