Job Title: Technical Author
Location: Christchurch, Dorset Rate: £48 - £52 per hour (PAYE only) plus holiday allowanceContract Type: 6-month contract (potential to extend)Working Pattern: Hybrid - 3 days in office, 2 days remote

Technical Author Role OverviewThe successful candidate will produce, amend, and manage technical documentation to support the development, operation, and maintenance of a sophisticated military communications system.
Key Responsibilities• Request, gather, and assess logistic information from equipment suppliers to inform technical publications• Perform Maintenance Task Analysis on electronic computing and communication systems including various radios and masts• Author data modules based on Maintenance Task Analysis and additional sources, including operational and training materials• Create technical drawings and illustrations as required• Liaise with the training team to align documentation with training needs• Maintain and update the Data Module Requirements List• Develop and revise a range of descriptive, procedural, and Illustrated Parts Data modules for the Common Source Database• Proofread and review data modules created by team members• Produce Interactive Electronic Technical Publications using trilogi software for customer delivery• Provide support to other Integrated Logistic Support and Logistic Support Analysis tasks as needed
Skills and Experience Required• Proven experience working with technical publications standards such as S1000D (Issue 4.1) and Defence Standard 00-601• Strong background in authoring data modules • Understanding of standard numbering systems and configuration management processes• Experience in maintaining and updating a Data Module Requirements List• Proficiency in technical authoring using XML-based tools, ideally EAGLE xml editor or similar• Familiarity with CSDB and IETP production using industry software, preferably within the EAGLE LSAR and EAGLE Publishing System• Excellent attention to detail and ability to work independently and within a team• Knowledge of trilogi build process is desirable• Ability to create and edit technical illustrations
