Offer description

Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora is firmly grounded in the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and is committed to building a health system that serves all New Zealanders.

About the Role

We are looking for a dynamic and experienced Senior Medical Officer to join our Acute care team in the Mental Health and Addiction Service at Hawkes Bay Fallen Soldiers Memorial Hospital.

This role will work with teams in the community and in our inpatient unit to support patients in the acute phases of their illness, combining early assertive intervention in the community with effective hospital admissions where necessary. While this is a general psychiatric role, the clinical load is varied and interesting and by necessity engages with all major subspecialty interests and the wider clinical hospital and primary care teams.

There are opportunities to influence models of care which are responsive to our community needs, as well as helping grow our future workforce by engaging in teaching and other leadership activities.

Mental Health and Addiction services in Hawkes Bay are centred around two large community teams, with a Kaupapa Māori mental health service provided by an NGO partner and satellite teams in the smaller population centres. Within the service are Child and Family, Home Based Treatment, Maternal Mental Health, Te Ara Manapou, Consultation-Liaison, Emergency Mental Health, Older Persons and Addiction services.

The Mental health and addiction service have a robust Peer Review Group and you will have access to CPD activities to meet ongoing registration requirements

Hawkes Bay offers excellent work-life balance, sun, beaches, exceptional outdoor adventures, great schools, mountains and skiing close by, wonderful food and stunning wineries, vibrant cities and plenty more to boast about.

About you

You will be vocationally registered in Psychiatry with the Medical Council of New Zealand (MCNZ) or hold equivalent qualification and be able to qualify for vocational registration with MCNZ.

You will be able to provide clinical leadership to the multidisciplinary team, with a commitment to continuous quality improvement.
