London
Barts Health NHS Trust
Cardiac physiologist
Posted: 16 February
Offer description

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced and motivated Cardiac Physiologist to take on a senior leadership role within one of the UK's largest and most advanced cardiac services. Barts Health NHS Trust is the largest NHS Trust in England, serving a diverse population across four major hospitals in central and east London. The Barts Heart Centre at St Bartholomew's Hospital is a leading tertiary cardiac centre delivering high-volume electrophysiology, device and interventional cardiology services, supported by one of Europe's largest remote monitoring programmes.

The Outpatient and Network Device Service Lead will provide expert clinical, operational and strategic leadership for cardiac device services across the Cardiology Directorate, with responsibility for outpatient and networked sites. Based at St Bartholomew's Hospital, the post holder will lead the development, delivery and continuous improvement of a high-quality, protocol-driven outpatient device service, ensuring safe, effective and patient-centred care across all locations. Working closely with the Principal Cardiac Physiologist, deputy managers, consultant cardiologists and Cardiac Science leadership, they will help shape a modern, resilient and integrated device service across the Trust..

Interview date 20/03/2026

This role combines advanced clinical expertise in cardiac rhythm management with service leadership and workforce management. The post holder will act as lead physiologist for complex outpatient device management, including advanced interrogation, optimisation and troubleshooting, while developing standardised protocols, pathways and governance arrangements to ensure consistent care across all sites. There will also be a focus on service development, including the introduction of new technologies and outpatient service models.

The post holder will provide leadership and line management for cardiac physiology staff within outpatient and network services, supporting recruitment, appraisal, rota planning, sickness management and workforce development. Using performance data and quality metrics, they will oversee service performance, drive improvement and contribute to clinical governance, risk management and CQC readiness. The role also supports delivery of a seven-day cardiac physiology service and wider Trust cardiac science initiatives.

This post offers a balanced mix of clinical and leadership responsibilities, with an indicative split of approximately 50% clinical and 50% management. It is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Cardiac Physiologist to maintain advanced clinical practice while leading strategic service development within a nationally and internationally recognised cardiac centre.
