The Opportunity
We are seeking a motivated and experienced Expatriate Tax Manager with fluency in Japanese to join our Japanese Integrated Mobility ’re looking for a strategic thinker with strong technical knowledge, a commercial mindset, and a passion for delivering excellence. If you’re a proactive leader, natural relationship builder, and effective problem-solver, we’d love to hear from you.
In this dynamic and client-facing role, you will:
1. Lead advisory services for our Japanese clients on a broad range of international mobility and expatriate tax matters
2. Manage complex global tax projects with a strategic, solutions-focused approach
3. Deliver exceptional service to some of the world’s most prominent multinational organisations

You will take ownership of a diverse client portfolio, supporting both inbound assignees to the UK and outbound UK expatriates. Your responsibilities will include:
4. Overseeing tax compliance and advisory work

6. Providing strategic insights to help clients manage their globally mobile workforce efficiently
As part of a highly integrated team, you'll collaborate with specialists in personal tax, employment tax, immigration, and global reward to deliver end-to-end mobility solutions tailored to client needs.
What You’ll Do
7. Manage a diverse portfolio of inbound and outbound expatriate tax clients.
8. Provide expert guidance on international tax compliance, advisory, and mobility strategies.
9. Build and maintain strong client relationships, acting as a trusted advisor.
10. Lead the delivery of high-quality mobility tax projects, ensuring technical excellence.
11. Collaborate across EY’s service lines and global teams to identify new mobility opportunities.
12. Proactively drive business development, identifying opportunities for growth.
13. Coach, mentor, and develop junior team members, shaping the future of the practice.
14. Stay ahead of regulatory and technological developments, helping to innovate our services.
Key Responsibilities
15. Experience in Japanese expatriate tax market, mobility compliance, and tax advisory.
16. Strong technical skills with a keen eye for detail and continuous improvement.
17. Excellent communicator with the ability to engage clients at all levels.
18. Proven leadership and project management abilities, able to handle multiple priorities.
19. Strategic mindset, with commercial awareness of broader business issues.

21. Ability to manage risk, carry out effective reviews, and escalate when necessary.
Qualifications:
22. Relevant qualifications (ATT/ACA/CA/ACCA/CTA/Law or equivalent).
