Job overview
The H&N Clinical Nurse Specialist role will incorporate expert clinical practice, education, leadership, management, and research.
The post holder will be required to:
* Liaise with all key members of the multidisciplinary team to advise and support colleagues in delivering specialised patient care across professional boundaries.
* Work autonomously to deliver specialist clinical care based on research principles that enhance patient care quality.
* Undertake nurse-led clinics and ensure high standards of nursing care through planning, coordinating, delivering, and evaluating these clinics and services.
* Lead and support the development and implementation of nursing care programs for individual patients and the overall patient group.
* Contribute to planning, delivery, and evaluation of cancer pathways for specific patient groups.
* Participate in training and education within the specialist area.
* Promote continuous improvement of patient care through evidence review and research activities.
* Act as a role model and expert practitioner.
Main duties of the job
* Lead nursing clinical leadership across the H&N nursing service, ensuring high-quality patient care.
* Provide expert and specialised cancer care in collaboration with the H&N cancer MDT.
* Represent the Trust and the specialty at internal and external meetings.
* Maintain a patient-centred approach, involving patients, carers, and MDT members in care decisions.
* Deliver evidence-based, individualised care through holistic assessment, planning, and evaluation, promoting personalised care.
* Support patients by providing expert advice, information, and addressing their concerns.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
* Deliver safe, effective specialist nursing care for head and neck cancer patients throughout their journey, recognising complex needs requiring specialist intervention.
* Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate personalised evidence-based care programs for patients and families.
* Support medical staff in outpatient, ward, and primary care settings, acting as a patient advocate.
* Monitor cancer patients closely to meet waiting time standards.
* Participate actively in MDT planning, implementation, and outcomes.
* Be aware of resources and referral criteria to improve patient experience.
* Act as a team leader within the Head and Neck team.
* Manage a clinical caseload as a Key Worker, coordinating care and providing ongoing support.
* Assess information needs and provide relevant information to patients.
* Promote self-management and empower patients to access, appraise, and interpret information.
* Provide clinical expertise, advice, and support across boundaries.
