The Role of a HR Advisor

We're looking for a proactive and people‑focused HR Advisor to join our People & Culture team. This is a fantastic opportunity to support managers and colleagues across the business to deliver a professional HR service.

In this role, you will be the go‑to person for HR expertise - supporting employee relations, advising on policies, and helping drive meaningful people initiatives. If you're confident, organised, and passionate about delivering a high‑quality HR service, we'd love to hear from you.

What You'll Be Doing (Day To Day)

HR Advice & Employee Relations

Provide HR advice on disciplinary, grievance, performance, sickness, capability and organisational change.
Guide line managers through HR processes, ensuring fair and consistent application of policies.
Maintain accurate documentation, including case notes, letters and meeting records.
Keep up to date with employment legislation and contribute to policy reviews and improvements.
Deliver training to line managers on core HR policies and good people practice.

People Experience & Culture

Build positive working relationships with managers, acting as a trusted HR support.
Role‑model organisational values and support an inclusive, respectful and diverse workplace.

Projects, Data & Continuous Improvement

Support Senior People & Culture Partner on key initiatives, including communication and implementation.
Prepare HR data, metrics and reports to support decision‑making.
Contribute to streamlining processes and improving the efficiency of HR services.
Work closely with HR Assistants on pay, benefits and payroll checking activities.

What will make you successful in the role of HR Advisor

Strong HR Knowledge

Experience handling employee relations cases.
Understanding of employment law, ACAS code and HR best practice.
CIPD Level 3 (Level 5 desirable) or equivalent experience.

Great Communicator & Relationship Builder

Effective at engaging and influencing people at all levels.
Able to build trust and maintain positive working relationships.
Comfortably challenges and influences managers where needed, using sound judgement and evidence‑based reasoning.
Empathy, active listening and a strong customer service mindset.

Organised, Accurate & Proactive

Able to manage multiple cases and deadlines simultaneously.
Excellent attention to detail with strong documentation skills.
Comfortable identifying risks, raising concerns and recommending solutions.

Calm, Resilient & Solutions Focused

Able to adapt quickly to changing priorities.
Maintains a positive, professional approach, even in complex or challenging situations.

Digitally Confident & Data Driven

Able to use HR systems, produce reports and interpret HR metrics.
Comfortable with digital tools and open to improving processes through technology.

Working Arrangements

This role is full time, working 40 hours per week, Monday to Friday. Hybrid working is available, combining on-site work with the flexibility to work from home where appropriate.

This role can be based at either our RAF Cranwell site (Lincolnshire) or our RAF Shawbury (Shropshire) site, and the role requires regular travel to other locations, so a full UK driving licence is essential.

Security Clearance

Please note that many roles within Ascent Flight Training are subject to strict security restrictions. These may affect your eligibility based on factors such as, your nationality (current and former), place of birth or residency history.

All applicants must, at a minimum, meet the Baseline Personnel Security Standard (BPSS). In addition, many positions require higher levels of National Security Vetting, which typically demand more thorough background checks.

This role requires the successful candidate to obtain Security Check (SC) clearance.
