Overview
Would you like an opportunity to join a community based nursing team? This post will be working across the city-wide special school nursing service implementing and delivering specialist nursing care in a special school environment. The successful candidate will be required to carry out assessments; provide both planned and responsive clinical care and ensure that local safeguarding policies are adhered to. They will be identified as a role model for the Band 5 Special School Nurses and Enteral Feeding Assistants and will also support education staff and offer advice and support to parents and pupils.
Responsibilities
* Carry out assessments and provide planned and responsive clinical care in a special school setting.
* Adhere to local safeguarding policies and work as part of a multi-disciplinary team with the Doctor and Therapy Team.
* Role model for Band 5 Special School Nurses and Enteral Feeding Assistants; support education staff and advise parents and pupils.
* Manage a caseload and provide direct nursing care as well as training to health and educational staff on the management of nursing issues.
* Collaborate with the multi-disciplinary team to assess, review and meet the needs of children and young people.
* Provide core services including assessment and review, hands-on clinical care, key worker and signposting (including transition), training and supervision, and support to optimise long-term health and lifestyles.
* Have management responsibility for junior team members (e.g., Band 3 and Band 5) with supervision of student nurse placements, and support the Team Leader with management responsibilities of Band 5 nurses, Health Care Assistants, Admin and Clerical staff in the locality.
Qualifications and Skills
* Enthusiastic, committed children’s nurses with proven clinical experience.
* Excellent communication skills and the ability to manage time effectively.
* Understanding of the needs of children and young people with disability and/or additional health problems is essential.
* Ability to work as part of a team and to engage with education staff, parents and pupils.
