Specialty Doctor in Audio vestibular Medicine

We are seeking a Specialist Audiovestibular Physician to join our Barts Paediatric Audiology multi-disciplinary teams at Waltham Forest, Redbridge, City/Hackney, and Tower Hamlets & Newham.

The post will predominantly be based at Waltham Forest and Redbridge, based at Wood Street Health Centre and Loxford Polyclinic but the post holder may be expected to occasionally support working at other sites: City/Hackney & Tower Hamlets is based at Hackney Ark. Newham is based at West Ham Lane Health Centre.

Predominantly a clinical role, the post holder is expected to provide Medical Input to the wider Paediatric Audiology service at Barts and the Audiologist Led Service.

This interesting specialist role will involve working with babies, children and families in our spacious, family-friendly multi-disciplinary centres and taking on the responsibilities of this role within the dynamic working environment at Bart\'s will enable clinical and personal development.


Main duties of the job

The post holder will provide, with consultant colleagues, a full Audiovestibular Medicine service, seeing children with predominantly audiological presentations. Enthusiastic involvement in audit and service evaluation will be essential.

o Providing clinical care and supervision of paediatric audiology patients across Barts Health sites.

o Collaborating with multidisciplinary teams and attending relevant meetings.

o Supporting Clinical Audiologists and participating in teaching and training activities.

o Participating in clinical governance, audit, and quality improvement initiatives.

o Maintaining up-to-date knowledge and skills in line with GMC and Royal College requirements.

Person Specification


Qualifications

* Full UK GMC Registration
* MB BS [or equivalent]
* MRCP or MRCS(ENT) or FRCS (ENT) - NB: Non UK trained doctors must be on the GMC register in relevant specialty by date of interview.
* MSc in Audiovestibular Medicine


Experience

* Minimum 4 years (or equivalent) postgraduate training, two of which must have been in a relevant specialty (or equivalent experience and competencies).
* Experienced in diagnosis, investigation and management of paediatric audio-vestibular disorders.
* Two or more years experience in audiovestibular medicine, ENT, or paediatrics with focus on paediatric audiology
* Demonstrates breadth of experience and awareness in and outside specialty


Knowledge and Skills

* Comprehensive and detailed knowledge of audio-vestibular disorders.
* Can demonstrate commitment to teamwork and that they have the skills to work within a multidisciplinary service.
* Counselling and Communication skills
* Willingness to work without immediate supervision, but with an awareness of one\'s individual limitations.
* Good written and oral communication skills.
* Demonstrated ability to manage time effectively.
* Ability to work with other health professionals.
* Knowledge of evidence informed practice.
* Demonstrate an ability to identify and organise the specific clinical investigations and onward referrals relevant to the post.
* Demonstrate an ability to perform the specific clinical procedures, drug manipulations and clinical advice relevant to the post, including management of clinical risk.


Clinical Governance and management

* Evidence of having worked and being able to communicate within an Interdisciplinary / multispecialty service with appropriate levels of communication through direct discussions with team members, MDT meetings, and presentations to the team.
* Involvement in and understanding of the Clinical Audit process, Quality Improvement, Clinical Governance and Management IT skills.
* Experience of clinical audit and understanding role of audit in improving medical practice
* Understanding of clinical risk management and clinical governance
* Understanding of and proven ability to apply research findings in a clinical/ organisational context.
* Evidence of being able to engage and communicate at a National and International level.
* Able to engage and work with management as appropriate
* Publications in indexed journals
* Completion of a \"training the trainers\" type course or similar.
* Teaching on formal educational courses.
* Formal management training


Other

* Ability to communicate with clarity and intelligently in written and spoken English.
* Ability to work within a multidisciplinary team and to share and encourage good practice
* Ability to empathise, counsel others and work co-operatively with others
* Flexibility in time keeping ensuring duty of care to patients.
* Able to perform the duties of the post with any aids and adaptations.
