Overview
Postdoctoral Associate- Protein Innovation at Minderoo Centre for Technology and Democracy. This role is tied to a project funded by BBSRC at the Cambridge University Department of Pharmacology, working with Mark Howarth's group on engineering a panel of protein superglues for diverse applications in medicine, biotech, and fundamental research.
The project will involve directed evolution and protein optimisation, applying molecular biology and biophysics. There may be opportunities to gain experience with AI or machine learning tools for protein design and, depending on project development, learning other methods such as cell biology and structure determination. Training will be provided in unfamiliar methods.
Responsibilities
* Manage research activities and generate high-quality data.
* Draft scientific manuscripts and participate in day-to-day supervision of Masters or PhD students.
* Present data effectively, both verbally and in writing.
* Collaborate in an interdisciplinary research environment; work independently and as part of a team.
* Apply the techniques of recombinant protein expression or cell biology as essential experience for the project.
Qualifications
* PhD, or near completion, in molecular biosciences or a related field.
* Strong communication skills, with ability to present data clearly in writing and speech.
* Enthusiastic approach to science and collaborative mindset.
* Substantial experience with recombinant protein expression or cell biology is essential.
Employment Details
* Salary progression: If appointed as a Research Assistant at Grade 5 (£33,002 - £35,608) until PhD is awarded, then promoted to Research Associate, Grade 7 (£37,694 - £46,049). Teaching may supplement salary.
* Fixed-term: 36 months in the first instance.
