About the job
The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) aims to reduce fraud and error payments within Universal Credit (UC). Due to rising rates of fraud and error, especially among higher risk cases like the self-employed, a new self-employed income and expenses checking process has been introduced. This process includes a partial review of live UC claims to ensure accurate payments.
If you are seeking a career that positively impacts people's lives, a DWP Executive Officer role may be suitable for you. As an Income & Expenses checking agent, your responsibilities will include:
1. Managing and conducting partial case reviews within an allocated caseload to ensure compliance with legal and policy requirements.
2. Planning and conducting robust telephone interviews with claimants, asking relevant questions and tailoring follow-up questions based on individual cases.
3. Educating claimants on accurately reporting their Self-Employed Income and Expenses.
4. Deciding on appropriate evidence requests to verify declarations, considering each case's context.
5. Gathering, verifying, and assessing information to determine the appropriate course of action, such as referring to CFCD.
6. Completing reviews to a high standard, providing clear evidence for fair judgments.
7. Seeking support and advice when needed, including referring to guidance, consulting colleagues, or escalating to a team leader.
8. Recording case progress on departmental systems and maintaining relevant evidence, redacting sensitive information when necessary.
9. Working collaboratively within the team and contributing to the development of the new process.
10. Providing feedback to improve role and process effectiveness.
The main goal is to ensure claimants are paid correctly and any discrepancies are corrected. This role offers an opportunity to shape and deliver DWP's Fraud and Error strategy, ensuring value for money and enhancing reputation.
