A dedicated SEN Teaching Assistant is sought for a specialist Enhanced Learning Provision (ELP) within a primary school in Thornton Heath. Cultivating Potential in a Specialist ELP
This vital full-time role is within a "Good"-rated primary school's ELP in Thornton Heath. The ELP offers a highly tailored, nurturing environment for pupils with more significant and complex SEN, integrated within the mainstream school. You will play a pivotal role in ensuring these pupils receive the highly individualised assistance they need to flourish academically, socially, and personally. This ongoing position has strong potential for permanency.
Working closely with specialist teachers and potentially therapists within the ELP, you'll contribute to a vibrant, accessible curriculum, empowering every student to succeed.
Your Role: Facilitating Growth and Independence
As a Primary SEN Teaching Assistant within the ELP, your key responsibilities will include:
Delivering highly individualised support plans to pupils with complex SEN, addressing diverse needs (e.g., severe autism, PMLD, significant communication challenges).
Assisting with bespoke learning activities, adapting resources, and supporting the development of independence and life skills.
Implementing communication strategies, which may include PECS, Makaton, or other assistive technologies.
Collaborating with specialist ELP staff and external professionals to ensure holistic pupil development.
Implementing positive behaviour support for complex needs, fostering a calm, predictable, and supportive learning environment.
Monitoring and documenting pupil progress, providing valuable feedback to the ELP team.What We Require: Essential Attributes & Expertise
To excel in this specialist role, you will need:
Proven experience supporting primary children with complex SEN, ideally within an ELP or similar specialist setting.
Strong understanding of various complex SEN diagnoses and effective support strategies.
Familiarity with communication aids (e.g., PECS, Makaton) or positive behaviour support training.
An adaptable, highly patient, and resilient approach to individualised pupil needs.
Excellent interpersonal skills for working with pupils, colleagues, and parents.
