Job Overview
Come and join us and be one of the friendly and supportive 300 Occupational Therapists (OTs) in Central and North West London NHS Foundation Trust (CNWL). We work in many different teams in both physical and mental health, as well as a number of specialist areas. You could have a career for life with us and maintain your dual skills. OT in CNWL benefits from a long-established professional structure that includes an AHP director, trust-wide professional head of OT, borough and specialist head OTs, ensuring representation at all levels – both strategically and operationally. Personal and professional development is a high priority, underpinned by our OT R&D strategy, specialist R&D groups and OT clinical networks. We invest in staff development through internal training, commissioned external training and quality supervision, ensuring all OTs reach their full potential at every stage of their career. Our commitment to research, audit and evidence-based practice is made possible by strong links with local universities. We actively support the next generation of OTs through apprenticeships, student placements and promotion of the profession as a career in schools. We are proud of the diversity in our workforce and have invested time in supporting and developing this further through our BAME OT group.
Responsibilities
This post is a pure OT role with generic responsibilities, ideal for newly qualified OT’s or anyone looking to gain experience in an acute mental health setting, working alongside a supportive and experienced team of senior and specialist OT staff. You will develop skills in OT specific assessments, sensory assessments and interventions, trauma-informed approaches, individual and group work and have the opportunity to learn from a varied set of skills within our multidisciplinary team (MDT), including nursing, psychology and the medical team. This continuity OT post will work three days a week within the Harrow adult acute inpatient wards, and two days a week within the Harrow adult community mental health team (CMHT). The purpose of the role is to ensure seamless transition and continuity of care for service users as they move from the ward environment back into the community, supporting service users in developing and maintaining routines, skill building and community integration with a strong focus on relapse prevention and reducing the likelihood of readmission to hospital.
