Maternity Clinical Support Worker

We are now recruiting to our team to ensure we can continue to provide a safe and effective maternity care experience for the women and babies who use our Maternity Service. Maternity Clinical Support Workers are highly valued members of our team who contribute to providing the level of care we aspire to. Main duties of the job
Provide care to woman and babies in support of the midwife and undertake personal care duties for woman and babies in the community, working as part of a multidisciplinary team.
Clinical
* Carry out venepuncture clinics.
* Assist and support mothers in feeding their babies.
* Assist mothers in caring for babies e.g. nappy changing, bathing.
* Provide and receive information using communication skills and empathy.
* Support administrative staff with admin duties.
* Carry out safe sleep assessments at home and in the clinic setting.
* Transport equipment between community areas.
* Clean beds, trolleys, rooms and undertake general housekeeping duties including stocking up.
* Report any problems or concerns to midwives.
* Escort women to other departments as required.
* Ensure safe use and maintenance of designated equipment e.g. blood glucose machine, fridges and domestic appliances.
* Comply with infection prevention and control procedures at all times.
* Comply with responsibility to safeguard children, ensuring attendance at appropriate training.
* Take personal responsibility for putting the person receiving care first and challenge poor care/practise, doing so as soon as any shortcomings are seen.

Person Specification
Qualifications
* Level 3 vocational qualification OR short courses and completion of competency workbook equivalent to Level 3 in a range of patient and clinical care duties OR equivalent knowledge and experience in a range of clinical care duties equivalent to Level 3;
* Theoretical knowledge
* Experience of a range of care and related procedures
* Clinical observations
* Knowledge of data protection legislation and health and safety at work legislation
* National Care Certificate or commitment to complete within 12 weeks of commencing employment
* Numeracy and Literacy Level 2
* Undertaken relevant additional training for Clinical Support Workers
Experience
* Experience or working in health and social care
* Experience of undertaking and recording clinical observations and escalating changes or findings
* Working knowledge of legislation underpinning care provision
* Understanding of the importance of robust, accurate, clear, timely documentation
* Insight into behaviours and skills of a carer and the need for effective team work
* Knowledge of safeguarding
* Understanding work related boundaries
* Awareness of GDPR and the need for confidentiality
* Familiarity with current NHS and social care policies
* Clinical policies and procedures
* Evidence of understanding Trust Business
* Experience of working in the Trust previously
Skills
