LGV Technician, Surrey County Council role at Surrey Fire and Rescue Service, based in Reigate. This permanent, full-time position has a starting salary of £41,585 per annum based on a 36-hour working week. The working hours are a rolling rota of 4 days per week, Monday to Friday from 07:30-17:00. During busy periods, or where required, you may work outside these times to ensure we maintain support to the front-line crews.
Overview
Our Engineering team maintains a diverse fleet, from frontline appliances to boats and specialist vehicles. You will service and repair our fleet; approximately 200 vehicles and 18,000 pieces of equipment. You may be mobile, carrying out safety inspections and repairs across the county. There is potential to join an on-call breakdown team in the future, paid as overtime with an on-call allowance.
Responsibilities
* Service, maintain, and repair operational vehicles and specialist fire equipment, including pumps, ladders, cutting tools, hydraulic platforms, Unimogs, Land Rovers, water carriers, and boats
* Ensure SF&RS operates a safe, legal, and reliable fleet 24/7, 365 days a year
* Complete maintenance records accurately and on time, working closely with the Administrative Support team
Qualifications and Skills
* Educated to GCSE standard in English and Mathematics, or equivalent
* City and Guilds HGV Motor Vehicle Mechanics or equivalent, IMI Level 3 Diploma in Vehicle Maintenance & Repair - Heavy Vehicle
* Minimum Category B driving licence and flexibility to work on the road independently
* Strong problem-solving and engineering skills, including welding
* Willingness to train on specialist vehicles and equipment
