Overview
Our client, a major UK Defence organisation, is seeking a Quality Engineer to support the Future Defence Support Solution (FDSS) programme. The FDSS team, part of Joint UK StratCom – DE&S, is delivering a complex, novel commodities supply chain management system covering a wide range of materials — from medical devices and pharmaceuticals to fuels, clothing, and electronic commodities.
The Quality Engineer will play a pivotal role in developing and embedding a Quality Assurance System to support the ITT phase of the programme and ensure supplier compliance throughout tender evaluation and selection.
Key Responsibilities
· Develop the Quality Assurance System framework to support ITT activity.
· Produce iterations of the FDSS Quality Plan, ensuring MOD compliance while reflecting commercial supply chain best practice.
· Respond to industry Requests for Information (RFIs) during the ITN phase.
· Review and assess supplier quality submissions, contributing to evaluation and down-selection processes.
· Produce written evaluation and scoring reports with recommendations for the commercial team.
· Capture learning from industry to update and improve the FDSS Quality Management System.
· Develop detailed Quality Requirements for inclusion in ITT Systems Requirement Documents.
Essential Skills & Experience
· Proven experience in multi-domain DE&S quality management and assurance practices.
· Strong background in requirements definition and documentation.
· Solid understanding of DE&S commercial requirements.
· Experience in engaging with industry, commercial teams, and regulators.
Desirable Skills & Experience
· Knowledge of supply chain quality assurance or a demonstrated ability to quickly self-learn the subject matter.
· Experience supporting MOD requirements development and assurance processes.
Additional Information
This role is suited to an experienced, adaptable Quality Engineer who can apply innovative approaches to complex assurance challenges. The work is hybrid, with regular attendance required at Abbey Wood, Bristol. The successful candidate must hold SC clearance and be a UK national.
