The vacancy

We’re looking for an experienced and passionate ALS Specialist Lecturer to join our Additional Learning Support team. In this role, you’ll deliver high‑quality, individualised interventions that help learners with SEND to succeed across Further Education, Apprenticeships and Higher Education. You’ll carry out Access Arrangements Assessments, undertake screenings for Specific Learning Difficulties, and work closely with curriculum areas, workplaces and external partners to ensure our learners have the right support in place. You’ll be a visible champion for inclusive practice across the college.

We are currently looking for 3 people to fill this role, please specify in your application form which vacancy you are applying for.

Vacancy 1: Part Time - 3 days per week/22.5 or 21.5 hours per week

Vacancy 2: Full Time - 35.5 hours per week

Vacancy 3: Part Time - 2.5 days per week/ 18.75 hours per week

Key Responsibilities

1. Teach personalised ALS interventions across FE and apprenticeship programmes, assessing learners as required.
2. Complete Access Arrangements Assessments for examinations and advise on reasonable adjustments.
3. Undertake SpLD screenings for HE students and provide interim support.
4. Contribute to identification, planning, support and progression for learners with SEND, including those with EHCPs.
5. Liaise with curriculum teams and employers to develop effective support plans and exam arrangements.
6. Champion an inclusive culture and foster links with external bodies to enhance provision.
7. Maintain accurate records to meet funding and audit requirements.

Essential Criteria

We’re looking for someone who brings both expertise and empathy to the role. You’ll need:

8. A degree in a relevant field (English & Maths, ESOL, Psychology, Education etc.)
9. A recognised Teaching Qualification is desirable but not essential – applicants must be willing to work towards this.
10. A Level 7 qualification in assessing for access arrangements (e.g. CPT3A or equivalent)
11. Experience supporting learners with dyslexia, literacy, numeracy, and language needs in FE and/or HE settings
12. A strong understanding of specific learning difficulties and educational needs, and their impact on learning and progression
13. Experience using innovative and inclusive teaching strategies
14. Excellent communication skills and the ability to work flexibly across teams and settings

Additional Information
