Our Farm
We are a high-yielding, family farm covering 1200 acres. Our 900 Holstein all-year-round calving flying herd yields 12,000 litres. We milk three times a day using a GEA 50-point rotary parlour with Northern Dairy Teatwand and brush. Our milk is supplied on an Arla 360 contract. Our cows are housed all year round, and we have a team of 15 full-time staff, with additional support provided by a night team.

Your Role
As an Assistant Herd Manager, you will take be responsible for:
- Taking the lead on utilising data provided by Uniform and heat detection collars to aid high animal welfare and fertility.
- Day-to-day management of the herds' health and well-being.
- Collaborating with the farm team regarding farm audits, milk production, and the breeding of the dairy herd.
- Leading the team effectively, supporting the Herd Manager with timely communication to support the team and business to achieve high standards of animal well-being and team morale.
- Supporting with Herd Health Plans and standard operating procedures relating to calf rearing, including vaccination plans, vet recommendations and associated protocols related to animal health.
- Monitoring and measuring lameness, feeding operations and calf growth rates.
- Ensuring all dairy records are kept up to date.
- Working alongside the Herd Manager to regularly review animal records and performance to prevent and identity issues.
Requirements
You
The successful candidate will:
- Have 1 year of experience in a senior dairy role.
- Possess a strong ability to communicate effectively with team members.
- Have previous experience utilising data from Uniform and Heat Collars.
- Be AI qualified.
- Have excellent animal handling and husbandry skills
- Posses knowledge of fertility, nutrition, milk quality and farm audits.
- Demonstrate a desire to develop your skills and grow with the business.
- A full UK Driving license is required for this role.
- UK Right to Work.
